Microsoft has been courting controversy today with the news that the only browser to be made available on Windows RT – the ARM version of the new Windows 8 OS – will be Internet Explorer 10. But Microsoft product users might be a little more pleased with the news that the company is bringing Internet Explorer for XBOX 360 , and it’s expected to be announced at E3 next month, will be based on Internet Explorer 9 but with a Metro look and feel.
With the last major Dashboard update a few months back, Microsoft introduced Bing voice search results to the Xbox, but unlike on other platforms – which search the web and give you unlimited results – Bing search on the Xbox is limited to serving up media content only. But The Verge reports that Microsoft is now testing a “modified version of Internet Explorer 9” on the console, which will bring full web browsing capabilities to the Xbox 360 for the first time.
Like Bing on the Xbox 360, the console’s browser will offer both voice and gesture controls. At this stage, there’s no information yet on when the new browser will launch, but Tom Warren’s suggestion that it may be announced at E3 next month certainly makes sense to us.
