Xbox Entertainment Studios reveals upcoming documentary series
We have only just learned that Xbox customers will start seeing new, original content in 2014. It doesn’t come as a big surprise, as it’s the direction many popular video services are heading these days, slowly trying to force networks into obsolescence. Netflix has won awards with it shows, Amazon is pushing two excellent new comedy shows, Betas and Alpha House, and Microsoft wishes to get a bit of this action.
Now we have a bit of detail regarding one of those shows, a documentary series that plans to begin production in January. The show is being shot in conjunction with Lightbox and producer Simon Chinn. The series plans to take a look at tech history, and unravel some of the more famous mysteries. In fact, episode one will delve into the Atari game E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. It’s almost an urban legend — the game was so bad that Atari buried all copies in a landfill in New Mexico. Well, the show is going to go digging there and see what it finds. “Fuel Entertainment, an innovator in cross-platform content development, secured the exclusive rights to excavate the Atari landfill and approached Xbox. Lightbox will document the dig, which is planned for early next year”, the company states.
There’s no word on when the show will debut, but as filming hasn’t yet begun, it’s safe to assume it will be later in the year. Shows will be available for both the Xbox One and the 360. The catch will be the need for a Gold subscription.
