Universal Remote Desktop App coming soon: Continuum functionality baked in
Windows 10 brings with it a universal app model enabling the same experiences to run across smartphones and the PC. The last few months have seen a steady stream of app updates to re-engineer existing apps to work across devices, and today we’re hearing confirmation that Microsoft’s Remote Desktop application will be landing soon and the app will be Continuum enabled. IT Administrators rejoice!
Continuum is the new technology built into Windows 10 Mobile which allows recent devices such as the Lumia 950 and 950XL to offer a desktop mode when connected to a dock. When in this mode, your phone can run Continuum enabled apps in a familiar desktop environment. Many core Windows 10 apps are already enabled for this, such as Office, but thus far the system administrator’s favourite has been missing in action.
Remote Desktop allows you to control a PC by offering up a full representation of the desktop experience. This has been available in modern app form on Windows Phone and PC for some time, but with it becoming both Universal and Continuum enabled, it offers a unique opportunity for remote workers. Microsoft has been pushing productivity hard, and Remote Desktop is an essential tool for IT Professionals for remote administration.
We’re excited to see the momentum with Universal apps continuing. What apps would you like to see become enabled for Continuum, PowerShell anyone? Let us know in the comments!
