Nokia releases Lumia-exclusive Windows Phone app for YouTube uploads
While Microsoft and Google attempt to work out their differences for a YouTube app sanctioned by the latter company, it appears Nokia doesn’t want to wait for an app to upload videos to the popular video-sharing service.
Nokia quietly released a new app allowing users to upload videos to YouTube, though it’s currently exclusive to Lumia devices. The app – simply called “YouTube Upload” – allows users to select videos from the default Windows Phone gallery and share them to website. Videos can be uploaded over WiFi or mobile data networks, according to the app’s description.
Though the app’s description says it’s exclusive to Lumia smartphones, it can currently only be downloaded by Lumia 1020 users, possibly indicating it will be a timed exclusive for the new phone, or Nokia may simply not have tested it on other devices yet.
Microsoft released a YouTube client in May, saying it received no help from Google in creating the app. Google quickly issued a cease-and-desist letter, and the two companies are now working together on a new YouTube app for Windows Phone users.
